This is LAPS.
LAPS is a multitrack machine for layering soundscapes, capturing tape-style overdubs, and crafting intricate sonic collages. It serves as a versatile loop sketchpad, ideal for creating everything from glitchy, repeated sequences to short, wow-and-flutter-inspired cassette loops and expansive, multi-layered recordings.
With two composition modes, pitch shifting, filters, a tape age effect, and a granulator, LAPS transforms into a powerful sound design tool. It enables you to craft spacious, evolving mini-compositions—all from within a compact device.
LAPS was inspired by Puremagnetik’s Small Winters - a Portastudio-inspired software plugin built in collaboration with sound artist and 12k label manager Taylor Deupree. LAPS has taken Small Winters out of the box and into the real world with new features and enhanced functionality.
Featuring stereo input/output and 3 tracks, LAPS supports up to 20 seconds of recording per track at 24-bit/48kHz resolution.
Two unique modes for sound design and composition:
Replica Mode echoes your recordings back in three mirrored layers, allowing you to explore pitch shifts and loop point changes to create shifting, melodic landscapes and asynchronous textures.
Multiply Mode lets you stack recordings endlessly, each layer seamlessly building upon the last, creating lush, immersive textures without erasing what came before.
