Description

Later is a modulation box designed to bring warm modulations to a sunny day. It runs your audio through two band-pass filters and gives you the controls to modulate them on a small or a large scale. The filtered signal then goes through delay lines whose time moves, for slow time-based effects and far-out sweeps.

Some settings give you tape warbles, vibrato and flutter. Others sound like filtered radio. It can also make temporal glitches, tremolo pulses and big space effects, or just a delicate chorus. The filters only pass their two bands, so the more wet signal you blend in, the thinner and more radio-like the sound gets.

Signal path

Your input splits into two band-pass filters, and the sweep LFO moves both of them up from their COLOR settings. Each band also feeds a delay line moved by the chorus LFO. The two bands and their delayed copies are summed, then BLEND mixes them with your dry input before GAIN.

  1. Sweep LFO

    SHIFT
Sets how far the LFO sweeps the two filters up from their COLOR settings, by up to 400 Hz on COLOR 1 and about 140 Hz on COLOR 2.
    SLIP
Sets the speed of the sweep, from 0.01 to 5 Hz. COLOR 2 moves a little slower than COLOR 1, so the two bands drift against each other.
  2. Chorus LFO

    SPACED
Sets the chorus depth, which is how far the delay lines move.
    SHAKE
Sets the chorus speed, a slow modulation from 0.01 to 0.12 Hz. It also scales the delay time, so higher settings push the delayed copies further out, past 100 ms.
  3. Dual band-pass

    COLOR 1
Sets the center frequency of the first band-pass filter, from 50 Hz to 2 kHz before EDGE.
    COLOR 2
Sets the center frequency of the second band-pass filter, from 100 Hz to 1 kHz before EDGE.
    BREATH
Sets the width of both filters, from a narrow 20 Hz up to 200 Hz.
    EDGE
Multiplies both COLOR frequencies by anything from 0.1 to 5. Low settings pull both bands down into the bass, and high settings lift them into the upper mids and treble.
  4. Master

    BLEND
Sets the mix between your dry input and the processed sound.
    GAIN
Sets the output level, from silent up to double. The middle is unity.

Try thisFor filtered radio sounds, keep BREATH narrow and BLEND fully wet. For a delicate chorus, open BREATH all the way and keep BLEND around halfway.
